Welcome to The Lewis School, a pioneer in neuroscience-based education located in the heart of Princeton. We are ungraded and we serve pre-kindergarten through high school age students who have language based difficulties relating to Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, Auditory Processing, ADHD and Executive Function.

Parents who seek admission to Lewis for their children are in search of the best, longstanding, proven education that integrates the Orton system with a challenging curriculum delivered using the unique Lewis Integrated Multisensory Approach to Teaching and Learning.

We also provide educational intervention and support for high school post-graduates and college students looking to build stronger reading, writing, and study skills.

What is Dyslexia?

Dyslexia means “difficulty with words.” The child with dyslexia is the one who ate “pusgeddi” for lunch and takes “callipitters” to his science teacher. On the playground he is the clown or the subject of ridicule because he thinks he knows the rules and tells everybody else they do not. She remembers the end, forgets the middle, and does not know where to begin. She is the passive child with the accepting smile who seldom talks and is not a bother.

Persons with Dyslexia may be able to compose interesting melodies by ear at the piano, but cannot sound out words. Like Rodin, they may be gifted artists unable to integrate letter forms to create meaningful written expression. Like Niels Bohr, they may invent or build complicated models without being able to read the directions.

Dyslexia is a mechanical disorder of genetic origin. It does not stem from intellectual, socio-economic or physical deprivation.  Unconventional approaches to learning are not disabilities; they are learning differences.

Admissions Process

The Lewis School admissions process involves three steps: a school visit and interview, an educational assessment at The Lewis Clinic, and a post-assessment conference.

Step 1: School Visit and Interview
An essential part of the admissions process is to visit the school. It is an opportunity for prospective families to discover what makes our school and approach unique, and for the Admissions Team to offer support and guidance regarding each child’s educational needs.

Step 2: Educational Assessment at The Lewis Clinic
Each student is assessed at The Lewis Clinic. The educational assessment is extensive and provides teachers with direction for a student’s educational needs and subsequent placement at the School. The performance results also serve as a baseline for the measurement of progress and continuing needs.

Step 3: Post-Assessment Conference
Once the assessment is completed, the Test Administrator and Admissions team will meet with each prospective family to offer further guidance.

All students are notified of their official admission decision within one week of the educational assessment.
